Joining Jeff were dozens of other walkers, all supporting the charity, including former England captain Ray Wilkins, Hartlepool United manager and Boro legend Craig Hignett and our very own Peter Collinson. They were greeted by a large and enthusiastic crowd of supporters to welcome them.
The first leg began early in the morning at Hartlepool's Victoria Park and took in the Transporter Bridge, the Riverside Stadium and our friends along the Coast Road at Redcar Athletic, before arriving at Mount Pleasant shortly before 6pm. Extra fundraising events took place at the ground, including a raffle, bouncy castle and football-based challenges.
The campaign is already close to its £200,000 target but there is still plenty of time to donate. Peter Collinson meanwhile, absolutely smashed his £500 target, receiving more than double that amount before the day of the walk even arrived. The club would like to thank everyone who has lent their support to the march and everyone who came to greet the walkers at the end of the first leg.
