After moving to the Brewery Field in January, he helped Spennymoor to promotion to the Premier Division of the Northern Premier League and played an important role in helping the club reach the First Round Proper of this season's FA Cup, where they narrowly lost to Milton Keynes Dons.
But Craig always maintained his desire to play for Marske again and his return is sure to provide a boost to fans and team-mates. Subject to the relevant paperwork being cleared by the FA, he could be part of the squad for Saturday's home game against West Allotment Celtic.
Speaking after the deal was agreed, Craig said: "After the past week or so not knowing where I'm going to be playing, I am over the moon to finally get things over the line and to be returning to Marske.
"The two and a half seasons I spent there were some of the best times in my footballing career and I can't wait to get back started. Hopefully I am involved on Saturday and can help the team over the rest of the season and try and win some silverware.
"I'm looking forward to seeing some old faces and also meeting my new team-mates."
Manager Carl Jarrett expressed his happiness at being able to welcome his title-winning skipper back to the club. He said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be able to bring a player of Craig's quality back to the club. He is one of the best midfielders, not just in the Northern League, but the whole of the north east and signing a player of his talent shows how much the club is moving forward.
"He said in January he'd come back to Marske one day and he's been true to his word. He clearly loves the club and his arrival will give everyone a lift.
"When a player like that becomes available you can't afford to pass up the opportunity to sign them and risk losing them to a rival club. We know very well what Craig is capable of and I can't wait to get him back."
Gott's first spell with the club began in September 2013, when he joined from Darlington. He made 123 appearances in all competitions, scoring 45 goals, including 25 during the 14/15 title-winning season.
